Ewijk Bridge (The Netherlands): Fatigue Assessment and Deck Strengthening

Final Design Stage (Phase 3c) of this 1055m long steel box girder bridge across the Waal River. The cable stayed bridge carries the A50 motorway with a back and main span equal to 105 m and 270 m, respectively, and tower height of approximately 77m and 51m over deck level. The remaining bridge length corresponds to two (2) approach viaducts a four (4) span viaduct on the southern end and three (3) span viaduct on the northern end with a total distance of 345m and 230m, respectively. Fatigue assessment and strengthening strategy included the study of high strength concrete overlay under a cost-incentive cost-plus contract.
