This Master Class covers the Design of single-span reinforced concrete bridges, including abutment design, as a refresher course for participants' technical knowledge, the use of Automated Design Tools. The course covers aspects of structural integrity (ultimate limit state: capacity vs. demand) and structural
performance (serviceability limit states: stress/strain limits) for each of the key structural elements of reinforced concrete bridges.
During Construction stage, inadequate quality control of materials and workmanship, contract management, and decision-making outside the scope of responsibility, lead to project risks, despite a robust design phase. The content of this course aims to refresh the role and responsibility of the various stakeholders in construction, the control of documentation (planning, design and construction documentation) as well as the importance of certain key elements of communications and workmanship quality management, including site modifications.
