The aim of this work was to gain an informed understanding of the vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change of existing and proposed school infrastructure in Benin, and of the contributing factors of risk, to inform the development of a comprehensive strategic plan to enhance school building safety.
Recommendations were made as follows
- Needs for intervention in the existing school facilities, to make them safer and more resilient and to improve functional conditions
- Policy reforms and steps to ensure that new school infrastructure is safe and resilient
- Investment opportunities to support the Government in advancing school safety, including key activities and their prioritisation
- Institutional and policy actions (Road Map) necessary for planning and effective implementation of safer schools
