The purpose of this Road Map is to enable World Bank staff to engage with the Government to promote informed investment, at national scale, in the safety of school buildings at risk from natural hazards.

An “Agile” working methodology was applied to understand the vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change of existing and proposed school infrastructure in Morocco, and the factors that contribute to risk. This informed the development of a comprehensive strategic plan to enhance school building safety.

The work provided the World Bank with

  • Investment opportunities to help the Government of Morocco advance school safety, covering priority activities and their sequencing
  • An institutional and policy road map for planning safer schools, strengthening building standards and their enforcement, and building stakeholder capacity for risk reduction

I offer technical assistance in developing documents such as

  • National diagnostic report, including identification of natural hazards and drivers of risk
  • Safer Schools opportunities and strategy plan, with programme and projects
  • School design and construction guidelines for improved structural resilience
  • Build Back Better (BBB) guidelines
  • Workshops and training programmes
