Feasibility study of a floating tunnel solution for a 3.7 km highway crossing of the Sognefjord at Lavik - Oppedal as part of the new E-39 highway. The submerged floating tunnel would be composed of two (2) paralelle concrete tubes, two (2) lanes each (traffic lane + emergency/maintenance lane) supported by 16 pontoons, with a maximum distance of 400m at the navigation channel location.

The tunnel would be bearly at 20m depth from the fjord water surface. The water depth is 1250m at the site location. Special focus has been given to the Inspection and Maintenance/Operation Strategy for the Tunnel Safety and Life Time Performance on Structures, Pontoons, Joints, Bearings, M&E Equipment, Fire Protection Systems and Security Systems among others.
