Bridge Standards Review

Lead Bridge Senior Engineer for a desk-based review of the bridge standards used in Malawi. The aim of the review is to understand the consistency, challenges and gaps between the different guidelines and standards used for bridge design in Malawi, and to provide recommendations for improving the country’s bridge design practice.

The specific objectives are to understand how accessible the standards are in Malawi; if and how the current understanding of hazard risk is incorporated into the design of bridges; how climate change is considered in bridge design; and the bridge maintenance regime that follows from the proposed design standards, to ensure safety during the life of the structure.
